The Wave of the Future

Tonight I stayed late at work trying to put a bullet in the skull of our fixed assets mess at work, which I have to have straightened out by Monday.  So when I got home we decided not to try and bother with cooking.  We drove to Bob Evans to pick up some dinner, because I am on a kick currently where I like to eat turkey and stuffing, and I don’t know where else one can buy that hot and prepared.  As we were driving home, I started thinking about what an interesting lifespan it would have been, to be born shortly after the civil war, and live until the 40s or 50s.  To go from horse and buggy to TV, air travel, and highways.

I began telling him about this in the car.  “It’s not really like that anymore,” I said.

“We might have flying cars in twenty years,” he said.

“Well, even that isn’t as dramatic a development as going from horses to motorized travel,” I told him.

“Trains,” he said.

“Well, that’s still not the same as people having their own individual cars,” I pointed out.

“So I guess teleportation would be dramatic enough,” he said.

“Yeah,” I said.  “If we get individual teleportation portals at our homes,” I said.

There was a long silence.  “Or griffins,” he said.
