Bats Totally Do Fly at the Speed of Sound

A while back I had this coworker who was really into Coldplay, so I started listening to some Coldplay and I like their song. Ha, ha! That’s a funny joke about them! Anyway, the reason I bring this up is that I spent weeks really liking that song “Speed of Sound” and then today I decided to look up the lyrics and I felt totally let down. I seriously thought the words went “bats go flying at the speed of sound” but it’s actually “birds” which I think is as stupid as it is disappointing, because it makes the line that I thought was “bats came flying from the underground” much less cool. It just doesn’t make any sense that birds would come from the underground, whereas it makes a lot of sense that bats would, because bats are known to live in caves, which are frequently located underground.
In addition, there was this other line that I thought went “But you been in China all ate up” which just sounds cool because it comes after this part about making buildings so it makes me think about some very sad architect who got depressed even though he had designed at least 3 important/famous buildings and is now just wasting away in China. Actually that sounds rather stupid when I put it in words. But I thought it was cool. The line really goes “Japan and China all lit up” which I don’t like nearly as much. I feel a bit disillusioned. Maybe the China line I could get over, because it does make more sense in the song.
But most birds do not come from the underground and that is a fact of nature.
