ACCOUNTANT BY DAY

A lot of stuff has happened in the last month, most of it strange and exciting. First of all, tomorrow is my last day in payday loan land, which is sad and a relief at the same time.

What happened is that on March 6, I told my advisor at DeVry that I wanted to go ahead and start looking for a new position in my field, accounting. She said great, she’d circulate my resume a bit and we’d take it from there. On March 9, I got a phone interview for an internal auditing position (with the man who will be my new boss as of Monday), and when we ended he asked to schedule an interview. After agonizing for days over my coming interview on March 14, I showed up and went through three interviews with the CFO, Director of Accounting, and the Manager of Internal Audit. They apparently called my references almost as soon as I walked out the door, and first thing in the morning on March 15 I got the offer, which was about half again what I’m making right now, and accepted it.

So I start my new job next Monday. I’m pretty psyched about it all, because the company is developing a new auditing department, and I’ll get to help found an entire department. Awesome! Also, I am excited about my new working environment. When I interviewed at my new company, I saw that somebody in tax accounting had decorated her cubicle with some tastefully selected My Little Ponies. Anybody like that has to be my kinda person!
