Review: Playing with the Big Boys - A Woman’s Guide to Poker

I picked this up at Half Price Books for $5 when I was trying to learn some poker strategies, but I found the cutesy cute girly girl writing, which assumes that the reader is a six year old with an IQ of 45, unbearable. I wanted a basic book about poker, but jeez, not this basic. The author explains card and poker terminology in foofy terms like this:

Clubs: Sometimes referred to as Puppy Pawprints

WHO CALLS IT THIS??? NOBODY!! If that weren’t bad enough, the book is entirely written in that hyper feminine style in which every female is referred to as a “Goddess” as if we’re supposed to take this seriously instead of wishing that that author’s “Puppy Pawprints” had trampled the life out of her long before she had a chance to write this garbage. And the book might have something worthwhile hidden under all the “Goddess” bullshit but I don’t have any patience to sift through this retardation to get to the good stuff. I don’t know what women want to be talked down to and treated like the morons that this book was apparently written for, but I’m not acquainted with any of them. I feel sort of guilty book-crossing this trash as though it were actually worth reading. Since it’s not.
