My Brother Said So!

The transfer girl saw Amityville over the weekend and told me today that “the Amityville Horror is real, and I can prove it”. She believes this, because her brother apparently told her it was true. Oh, well in that case. I told her it’s a bad idea to go by hearsay, and that you have to find credible sources to back up preposterous claims if you want people to take you seriously. This was probably a mistake because although what I said is true, it has prompted her to declare that she’s going to research the event and find articles and other “proof” that the haunting was real.

This is going to be seriously annoying, because there are a few crazies out there who still believe the story, plus I picked the wrong time to dispute it because the media is sensationalizing it again right now. So she’ll probably find some website about it on Tripod or some shit where some 13 year old says his uncle visited the house once and felt really creeped out so he knows it’s true. What I don’t get is why people still refuse to accept it’s a hoax, when the Lutzes admitted in court that they faked it. Also, Ron DeFeo’s lawyer William Weber admitted on radio in 1979 that it was a setup meant to support his client’s “devil made me do it” defense. In addition, their other claims were shown to be fictitious, such as doors and windows that weren’t damaged, police records showing that the Lutzes never called, etc., etc.

All the arguments against the whole hoax idea are constructed by people who have a vested interest in making others believe that the stupid thing happened, such as Ed and Lorraine Warren, or people who think that their strong believe in the paranormal can stand alone as proof that the events were real. The sum of their arguments to disprove the hoax theory pretty much boils down to: “There isn’t any motive! Why would the Lutzes lie? Ed and Lorraine Warren say it’s true so that’s proof enough for me.”

Oh, I don’t know. Maybe the thousands and thousands of dollars in royalties and publicity? Maybe to get famous? Maybe to get under from a mortgage they couldn’t afford?

If transfer girl continues this feud by finding something stupid written by someone who ignores the facts and touting it as proof that Amityville is real, I’ll have to find a way to deny her the false satisfaction of believing she has gotten the better of me, which would be completely unacceptable. People who do not know what North America is are not permitted to challenge my intelligence. She’s probably one of those people who doesn’t know that Great Britain and England are the same country. Maybe she’ll just forget about this stupid Amityville thing.

We found out today that the governor ratified the new laws concerning payday loans, which means that Kansas payday loan companies can start having a $500 loan as of July 1. This ought to be interesting.
