Oh, The Horror

I went and saw the Amityville Horror last night with some of my friends last night. I thought Ryan Reynolds was pretty good, although the movie wasn’t a masterpiece or anything. A girl from my roommate’s store came with us and I think she found it kinda dumb. I thought it wasn’t bad for a scare flick. On the way home from the theater my roommate and I decided to both sleep in my room because we were scared that the bogeyman would get us during the night, or that our house would come to life and kill us. When we pulled into the driveway we realized that nobody had checked the mail earlier but neither of us wanted to go outside in the dark. We decided to get it in the morning and then we ran into the house and locked all the doors and pulled the shades.

It was really nice to sleep in the same room as a friend for the first time in forever. I think the most recent time was the last night this other old roommate and and I spent in campus housing at KU, which was close to this time in 2002. We used to stay up for hours talking and talking about stuff, mostly gaming. But my roommate and I were both pretty tired last night so we went to sleep pretty fast and didn’t talk much. Nobody snored from what I could tell.

I think the old lady next door might have passed away or been packed off to a retirement home because this morning I went outside to check the mailbox and saw that there was one of those huge long dumpsters planted right in front of her house, and I’ve only ever seen those before when somebody’s house with all their stuff is either being gutted or remodeled or just cleaned out. I suspect it might actually be that she died, because she had a lot of family who checked on her all the time, so it wouldn’t make much sense to pack her away in a home. Poor lady. She was nice. I wonder what her family will do with her house? Her father built it in the 1930s and she lived there her whole life after that, I guess. Then her brother built our house in 1936. I hope she doesn’t haunt the house now. On the upside, I suspect she wasn’t murdered with a shotgun so maybe her angry spirit has no reason to linger.
