Welcome to New, Mexico

The new girl is having some problems. Recently she came to get me because she couldn’t figure out a wire transfer she was trying to send. “I can’t find this city in the list,” she explained, showing me the screen. At a glance I saw that she was attempting to send a transfer to Mexico, for which the terminal displays a list of cities and states. I then glanced at the form the customer had filled out, which indicated that the money was to be picked up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. “Oh,” I told her. “You just got into the wrong screen, that’s all! Domestic transfers don’t have a list to pick from, so you just type it in. Just go to the US transfer screen.” She said, “But this transfer is going to Mexico, it says right there, New, Mexico.” I just stared at her, then explained that New Mexico is actually in the United States, not Mexico.

She also can’t show up for work on time to save her life, even though my boss already talked to her about that and told her that she needs to stop showing up for work 20-30 minutes after we open the actual store. However, on Saturday when I was scheduled to work alone with her she actually did a no-call, no-show. When my boss’s boss called later to ask me a question about what days he is going on vacation, he discovered that she had done this and said he might have to “let her go”. He offered to try to reach her to get her to come in that day to help me, as I was busier than a one-armed paper hanger with the crabs, but I told him not to bother because I was upset with her and didn’t want to see her. “I’m not mad because I really needed her that much today or anything,” I told him. “I’m just pissed at her for this because I am going to need her while my boss is on vacation, and I can’t afford for her to get herself fired before then.” He said OK, and said he’d try to find out what her excuse was and go from there. I’m off work today, so I have no idea what ended up happening. I guess I’ll find out tomorrow.
