Singing Contest

We have another new girl who started Monday. She looks like she’s in her late 30s and seems ditsy but not stupid. I know it seems weird to call someone her age a girl, but she kind of acts like one. I don’t mean that in a critical way. She has a big furry coat and I keep picturing her as a sort of valley girl in her younger years. At least she’s friendly, and seems willing to learn. She also has ideas and volunteers them.
In other news, my friends have convinced me to compete in a singing contest. There are two weeks or so left before the preliminary rounds end, so I begged my boyfriend and his roommate to go with me Friday night to Rivermarket Brewery so I won’t have to go alone. I haven’t decided yet what song I should do. I have a sort of strategy, though. Only 8 people compete each night, so you have to get there early to reserve a spot. But they pick the judges from just the general bar population, and many of those people might be there through the evening hanging out. The karaoke begins at 9 PM, so if I make sure to sing good songs while we’re waiting for the contest to begin at 11:00 (without tiring out my voice), maybe they’ll be more likely to like me.
I ordered a sampler of 13 different black and herbal teas, plus a tiny teapot, and a teacup, from Adagio.com and was incredibly pleased to see that their shipping is very cheap ($3.75 per order for regular ground shipping). Granted, tea is lightweight, but if I order in bulk I can really use their inexpensive shipping to my advantage. I understand that all their teas are packaged in small tins, which has me very excited about my shipment, which is in transit and supposed to arrive tomorrow.
